Report: Greenwich Has Country's Richest Neighborhood

When it comes to those "Best of" lists, Greenwich is usually at the top of the heap. So it's no surprise that yet another survey has determined Greenwich as having the richest neighborhood in the country.

A BusinessInsider report reviews a survey by an academic who used census tract data to create "neighborhoods" where the wealthy live around the country. And with that data, the "Higley 1000" was created.

The "neighborhood" reference points can be confusing...such as the neighborhood of Round Hill-North Greenwich which clocks in as the 16th wealthiest neighborhood in the country with its mean household income of $510,848.

The story said, "North Greenwich and Round Hill play home to a lot of financiers and hedge fund managers who work either in downtown Greenwich, where many firms have headquarters, or Manhattan."

But we all know that the waterfront enclave of Belle Haven also is home to some of the wealthiest billionaires in the country — and that neighborhood didn't make the list.

Greenwich is often referred to in news reports as "the tony Gold Coast." What was a bit surprising is that the wealthiest neighborhood in America is "The Golden Triangle in Greenwich" with a mean household income of $614,242.

And this is how the triangle is defined: "The Golden Triangle refers roughly to homes in the mid-country section of the city of Greenwich, Conn., which encompasses nearly two-thirds of the town's geography.

"One- and two-acre lots are most common. The remarkable amount of open space compared to the rest of Greenwich comes from preservation efforts led by the Greenwich Land Trust and other conservation organizations.

"In addition to palatial estates, the area is known for various waterways, winding country roads, forests, meadows and gorges carved by past glaciers."

Plenty of Greenwich's neighbors also were included in the survey. New Canaan has five, Darien has one, Westport has two. There are nine in all of Westchester County (four in Harrison, NY and two in Scarsdale), all of New Jersey has three, the same number as on Long Island.
