Greenwich Boys Soccer Defeats Hamden 2-1 On Penalty Kicks

The Greenwich boys soccer team advanced to the second round of the Class LL state tournament with a 2-1 victory over No. 16 Hamden on Friday in a game decided on penalty kicks.
After the team ended 80 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of overtime deadlocked at 1-1, Greenwich goalkeeper Jake Leaman took over in the penalty-kick phase, which the Cardinals won, 6-5.
Leaman stopped five of 10 shots, sending No. 17 Greenwich (10-5-3) into the second round on Monday against top seed Pomperaug.

Leaman gave up a goal in the second minute, but blanked the Green Dragons for the next 98 minutes. Greenwich tied it in the second half on a goal by Peter Zenner.
In the first round of kicks, Patrick Santini, Will Gittings, Mark Gaulocher and Jake Oe scored for Greenwich as the Cardinals converted four of their five opportunites.
