Cardinals season ends following a 10-9 loss to Fairfield Prep in the Class L quarterfinals

The Fairfield Prep boys lacrosse team survived a scare Saturday, holding on to defeat Greenwich 10-9 in the quarterfinals of the CIAC Class L state tournament.
Kevin Brown scored four goals and Matt Brophy added two goals and two assists for the fourth-seeded Jesuits (17-4), who survived a frantic second-half comback by the Cardinals after building a 6-1 lead at the half.
For No. 12 Greenwich (12-8), Eric Foote scored three goals and Alex Moeser added a pair. Peter Cabrera and David Dickson each had a goal and an assist for the Cardinals.

Brown's fourth goal of the game gave the Jesuits a 10-7 lead with just under three minutes remaining.
Goals by Moeser and Foote pulled the Cardinals within a goal with just under a minute left before the Jesuits held on to advance to Wednesday's semifinal against No. 8 seed Simsbury, which defeated top seed Newtown, 12-9.

Fairfield Prep avenged a 10-4 regular-season loss to Greenwich. The Jesuits, who are seeking their fifth state championship in six years, have won 10 of 11 games since that defeat.
