Significant Forecast Changes to the ‘Big Storm’ Expected for Connecticut Tuesday
Two Connecticut meteorologists say there have been significant changes to the forecast details associated with the "big storm" next week.

When you see significant changes to a weather forecast headline, you always assume it’s bad news, and this is the exception in this case. Connecticut will still see a significant storm on Tuesday and Wednesday but it appears right now that warmer air is likely to win out and though there may be a period of snow and ice for most of the state, it looks like it won’t last as long as initially expected, according to the latest weather forecast updates.
NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan and WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Kevin Arnone both said Saturday that the storm is trending warmer, which means a lesser period of snow and ice on Tuesday. However, both meteorologists stressed that the forecast isn’t locked in yet and things could switch back again.
“A big storm for Tuesday and Wednesday passes west of us... it's looking like this morning the mild air will win out here in Connecticut. Stay tuned...,” Hanrahan said on his Facebook page.

In a blog post on NBC Connecticut, Hanrahan notes, “There's been a notable jump to a warmer solution for the Tuesday and Wednesday storm which would mitigate the ice threat on the front end and allow temperatures to soar into the 50s on Wednesday.”
He did add that it may be cold enough for some ice on Tuesday though, as the precipitation begins as temps are close to the freezing mark. He said it could still be a slippery morning commute Tuesday.

Arnone wrote that forecast “models have been coming in warmer but there's still a chance for some wintry weather in this forecast.”
He added at WTNH News 8 that the wintry mix starts around midday Tuesday for inland areas but it is likely to be just plain rain for the entire Connecticut shoreline. He said the icy weather may last up to two hours in inland areas and isn’t forecast to accumulate much.
Between 1-2 inches of rain is forecast for Connecticut before the storm leaves us on Wednesday, Arnone said.
