Connecticut Weather Forecast: Snow Accumulation Estimates Rise
On Thursday evening, accumulation estimates for this weekend's snowstorm have increased significantly. Here's the latest details.

*Updated weather forecast: Winter Weather Advisory Issued For CT As Snow Estimates Increase
On Wednesday it appeared that Connecticut would largely escape any accumulating snow this weekend. It’s amazing how much can change in 24 hours when it comes to Mother Nature. The National Weather Service is now saying parts of the state may end up receiving a Winter Storm Warning and everyone else will likely be issued a Winter Weather Advisory.
The entire state is expected to receive accumulating snow on Saturday. Areas in the western part of the state would receive the least amount of snow, while areas east of New Haven are expected to receive the most snow, possibly in excess of six inches.

The timeline for Saturday’s snow is flakes begin flying late morning in the western part of the state and it should be falling everywhere by early to mid afternoon. The snow is expected to end by midnight Saturday.
For southern Connecticut, the National Weather says in a Thursday update that “there is a chance for reaching warning level snow fall from late Friday night into Saturday night. The best chance for this right now is over Southeastern Connecticut and portions of Central and EasternLong Island. The most likely scenario at this time is for an Advisory level snow across Long Island and Southern Connecticut and lesser amounts farther west.”

For Hartford and Tolland counties, the weather service states, “Accumulating snow is likely across much of Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut Saturday and Saturday night. Howeveruncertainty remains high regarding exact snow totals including the evolution of the rain-snow line. Stay tuned to later forecasts as changes are expected along with greater details.
And more accumulating snow is currently forecast for Tuesday. NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan is predicting 2-4 inches of snow statewide on Saturday. Hanrahan said he is increasing snow estimates because the jet stream is bringing the “system closer to Connecticut."
WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Fred Campagna is predicting 3-5 inches statewide and there may be an additional 1 to 2 inches more that sticks on on the grass and decks.

Here’s a breakdown of when and how much snow to expect, via the National Weather Service:
Coastline of Fairfield County
Snow begins around 10 a.m.. 2 to 4 inches expected. Snow ends around 8 p.m. An additional 1 to 2 inches is possible.
Inland sections of Fairfield County
Snow develops by noon and tapers off by midnight. 1 to 2 inches total is expected here as it’s the furthest from the storm.
New Haven County coastline
Snow begins around 1 p.m. and ends by 9 p.m. Areas west of New Haven will see 3 to 6 inches before it ends. Areas west of New Haven on the Shoreline can expect 4 to 7 inches with the snow beginning around 10 a.m. and ending by 10 p.m.
Inland sections of New Haven County
Interior sections of New Haven County can expect snow to arrive after 1 p.m. and end around 9 p.m. Three to six inches of snow is possible.
Hartford County
Snow begins after 3 p.m and ends around 9 p.m. A total of 2 to 4 inches is expected currently.
Tolland County
Snow begins after 3 p.m and ends around 9 p.m. A total of 2 to 4 inches is expected currently.
Middlesex County
Snow begins after 5 p.m. and ends by midnight. A total of 3 to 6 inches is possible before it all ends.
New London County
Snow begins around 11 a.m. and ends at 10 p.m. A total of 4 to 7 inches of snow is possible.
