Connecticut Weather: White Christmas Still Possible, Not Likely

For those of you still dreaming of a white Christmas, the dream is still a live, but it's still very much a long shot. NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan on Monday sent the following message to his followers on social media: "Want to be a meteorologist? Euro with a high of 58F on Christmas and the GFS with a few inches of snow. Take your pick."

Hanrahan added later, "A super challenging forecast for Christmas Day. The European model has temperatures near 60 while the GFS has a couple inches of snow. What's the correct solution? We don't know yet - way more uncertainty than usual."

After more data came in, the NBC Connecticut meteorologist said his "gut feeling" is that the precipitation on Christmas Day will likely be rain as opposed to snow.

"13 of the 20 GFS ensembles produce more than an inch of snow in Hartford on Chritsmas while about 25% of the European Ensembles do," Hanrahan said in a blog post. (Read his full blog post here.)

WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons said, "Clouds and some sunshine today with high temperatures up around 50. It’s a great day to get a car wash! 40s tomorrow followed by 30s on Thursday. Then it looks like some rain coming in on Saturday! Maybe an early mix NW CT before going to Rain there too! Showers for Christmas...stay tuned!"

Regardless, of whether it's snow or rain on Christmas, one thing is for certain and that is it's not likely to be dry. In fact, Connecticut could see rain on Friday, Saturday, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.
