Connecticut Weather: Some Snow In The Forecast

The high hit 65 degrees Monday in Connecticut, but a big change is on the way, including the potential for the first snowflakes.

You won't need the snowblower or snow shovel quite yet, but parts of Connecticut may see its first snowflakes of the season tonight as some light rain showers could turn to snowflakes for awhile. There is absolutely no chance of snow accumulating, but for many of us this will be our first chance to see some snowflakes.

Tonight's minor excitement will be followed later in the week by severe cold that is moving into the state with temperatures in the 30s on Friday and low temperatures in the teens.

WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons said, "Sun to clouds with light rain arriving 3-5PM. Cold, light rain tonight that could mix with some wet snow. No travel issues. Severe cold Friday-Saturday AM." Simmons said there is no reason to panic about some snowflakes in the forecast, but he urged people to find their gloves by Friday.

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan in a blog post said Connecticut could see some snowflakes tonight, but he explained why it may be hit or miss.

"We know the clouds above us will be producing snow - the question is whether that snow will make it to the ground. If the air is too dry (as the sounding above off the GFS shows) the snow will sublimate or dry up before reaching the ground," Hanrahan explained.

Fox 61 Meteorologist Matt Scott said, "Whoa! What happened to the warm temps? Numbers this morning are running 15-20 degrees colder, so bundle up as you head out! The sad truth - this is a seasonal forecast, with highs in the low 50s, and some rain coming tonight. There's the thought that a few wet snowflakes may mix in up in the Litchfield hills and the Berkshires, but that's it. Low 50 for highs for the rest of the week, then another hit that drops the highs to the THIRTIES for Friday, and slowly rebounding through the weekend."
