State troopers responded to a report of a crash on I-95 northbound in the area of Exit 5 at approximately 1:44 a.m. Friday.

A preliminary investigation showed that Kennedy was driving his Ford Mustang northbound on the highway when he drifted into the right shoulder and struck the metal beam guardrail, police said.

The car then veered across all lanes and struck the concrete median barrier, which caused the car to spin out in the left lane, police noted.

Another northbound car, an Infinity Q50 Luxe driven by a Stamford woman, then struck the Mustang head-on, police said.

Kennedy was taken to Stamford Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The woman sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment, police said.

I-95 northbound in Greenwich was closed for several hours Friday morning. It reopened at 6:45 a.m.

An investigation into the crash remains ongoing, and police are asking those with more information to contact Trooper Collin Baker No., 912 via email at collin.baker@ct.gov.
