Stop & Shop To Close 1 Location In Greenwich For Good
The Stop & Shop in the Glenville section of Greenwich will soon close, according to a company spokesperson.

GREENWICH, CT — The Stop & Shop in the Glenville section of Greenwich will soon close its doors, a company spokesperson confirmed with Patch on Tuesday.
"Stop & Shop has made the difficult decision not to renew the lease for our store located at 11 Glen Ridge Rd., in Glenville, Connecticut, as the store was not meeting financial expectations," said Stop & Shop spokesperson Maura O'Brien in an emailed statement.
The store, which employs approximately 60 associates, will operate through June 15.

"All associates will be given the opportunity to transfer to other Stop & Shop locations. We look forward to continuing to serve the community at our other locations, including Greenwich and Stamford, CT, and Port Chester and White Plains, NY," O'Brien added.
According to the Greenwich Assessor's Office, Sutton Land LLC owns the property, which is listed as 21 Glenville Street, and located within the Glenville Shopping Plaza. A Verizon store, photo imaging center and liquor store are also in the plaza.

It's unclear what will happen to the brick building that houses the grocery store. Attempts to reach Sutton Land LLC by phone and email were unsuccessful Tuesday.
Stop & Shop employs 58,000 associates and operates more than 400 stores throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York and New Jersey, the grocery giant says on its website. There are currently 88 Stop & Shop locations in Connecticut.
The upcoming closure will leave one Stop & Shop in Greenwich at 161 West Putnam Ave.
