Supporters Kick off Greenwich United Way Fundraising Year with 6th Annual Oktoberfest

The Greenwich United Way’s sixth annual “Oktoberfest” took place Oct. 24 at Stamford’s Loading Dock where supporters enjoyed an evening of Bavarian festivities organized by the two terrific event co-chairs Melissa Levin and Erin McCall.

The night included Abigail Kirsch’s gourmet German buffet dinner, regional beers and wines, music, dancing, a silent auction, games for the not particularly skilled, such as “Heads or Tails,” , and more.

The fundraising event’s lead sponsors were Greenwich Hospital and Fieldpoint Private Bank. The Alpine setting was provided by Carolyn Dempsey Design. Mrs. Levin and Mrs. McCall, joined United Way President Stuart Adelberg in recognizing the generosity of numerous sponsors and the individuals and businesses who contributed over eighty items to the silent auction. They applauded the dozens of volunteers whose enthusiasm and hard work made the evening a rousing success.

Serendipity magazine was the media sponsor for the event.

Oktoberfest 2014 launched the United Way’s town-wide fund drive and its 80th year of identifying and meeting local needs. The organization researches and documents the community’s human service needs, and works throughout the town with agency partners to coordinate efficient delivery of local health and human services. Greenwich United Way is in fact the Town’s largest non-government source of human service program funding, made possible by the annual community-wide campaign and special events such as Oktoberfest.

Giving to the annual community-wide fundraising campaign is the most effective and efficient way to support critically needed local services that strengthen children and families, support seniors, foster self-sufficiency, and assist individuals in crisis.
