Thieves Steal Another Expensive SUV in Greenwich

Another driver left the keys inside the unlocked vehicle parked in front of his home.

Another high-end SUV was reported stolen in Greenwich over the holiday weekend in a continuing string of thefts that appear to follow the same pattern, according to police.

A resident of Grand Street in the Chickahominy neighborhood of town reported that his black 2015 Mercedes Benz SUV GL450 on July 4. The resident told police that he “parked the car overnight on July 3 in the driveway in front of his residence,” according to Lt. Kraig Gray.

“Both sets of keys were inside the vehicle and it was unlocked,” Gray added.

Since November, at least 15 high-end vehicles have been stolen. And, police say there are two common denominators in most thefts — the vehicles were unlocked and the keys were inside. There isn’t one specific neighborhood that’s being targeted.

“It’s following a pattern of opportunistic thieves taking advantage of residents’ sense of security by parking their cars outside their homes and in the well-traveled downtown area,” Gray said. “There’s a reason why there’s a lock on the car.”
