Update On Super Bowl Snow Chance; Big Storm Expected For Connecticut Next Week

The latest weather forecast includes some good news and some bad news. Here's the latest details on both.

This falls into the good news, bad news category. Let’s begin with the good news first. It now appears talk of a storm that may have impacted Super Bowl Sunday lasting into Monday is expected to stay to Connecticut’s south, according to NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Darren Sweeney and WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons.

The bad news is that a major storm is likely to impact Connecticut on Tuesday and Wednesday, which could bring a period of some snow, ice and a lot of rain. That storm is almost a week away but the state’s leading meteorologists are cautioning that it is something we need to pay close attention to.

Sweeney in a post on Facebook Wednesday night wrote: "The Sunday/Monday storm is looking to go south of us but it's something we'll still watch. The next storm: Tuesday/Wednesday looks messy. First, a burst of accumulating snow looking likely to develop on Tuesday. Then, the main storm goes west of us pulling warm air in. This will mean ANOTHER snow to mix to rain type of scenario. The storm track has not been good to snow fans this winter… This is still several days away, but a heads up for your Tuesday/Wednesday plans.”

For today’s weather, Simmons wrote on Facebook Thursday morning that “Sun and clouds with a flurry possible for the afternoon. High temperatures will be in the 30s to around 40°. Dress for 20s and 30s that is how it will feel with the wind! Quiet and colder through the weekend. I storm likely for Tuesday and Wednesday next week!”

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan dissected next week’s messy weather in a blog post, which you can read here, and he said there should be enough cold air on Tuesday to ensure a period of some snow and mixed precipitation but he expects it to turn to rain for most of the state on Wednesday.

“If we're lucky we'll get a lot of rain out of this storm - we could use it. We'll have to watching the leading edge of whatever we get, however, as we could be dealing with a period of snow or ice,” Hanrahan wrote on his blog.
