The YMCA of Greenwich held their Annual Meeting on Tuesday, May 19th. YMCA staff, members, and the Board of Directors gathered to highlight a year’s worth of success for the YMCA and look ahead to the organization’s upcoming centennial birthday.
At the Annual Meeting it was also announced that four new members have been elected to join the Board of Directors. These individuals will help the existing Board work with executive staff to promote the YMCA’s 3 principal initiatives; Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility.
New Board Members:
Derek Brown has been an active member of the YMCA for several years. He is the father of two children, Abby (3) and Liam (8), who was the top individual fundraiser at this year’s Y Mile Swim. Derek is currently a Managing Director of the Securities Division at Goldman Sachs.
John M. Merrill is the outgoing head of admissions and organizer of two annual open water swims at the Rocky Point Swim Club. John is currently a Managing Director at the Investment Fund for Foundations in Greenwich.
Mukesh Sehgal is the Founder, President, and CEO of RSG Media Systems and author of a bestselling book on relational database management systems, “DB2: Concepts, Programming, and Design”.
Patty Quigley has been an active member of the YMCA’s Parent Aquatics Committee for the past two years. She is currently a “Reading Champions” tutor for the United Way and on the planning committee for fundraisers and auctions.
The past 12 months have been particularly successful for the YMCA of Greenwich. The organization has experienced a steady growth in membership due in part to continuous programmatic diversification as well as an increase in the amount of scholarship assistance provided for those programs.
The newly formed Junior Board has been celebrated for its help raising the additional funds needed for such scholarships. Formed this time last year, the group has since hosted several successful fundraising events including the recent Cinco de YMCA-O party at Barcelona restaurant, which raised over $3,500 for the YMCA summer camp program at BANC.
Founded more than 99 years ago in 1916, the YMCA is the largest community-based membership organization in Greenwich. Part of a well-known YMCA national network, the Greenwich Y has 5400 members. Its programs in healthy living and youth development seek to serve and to nurture the potential of everyone in our community, whether or not they have the ability to pay for its programs.
