YMCA Marlins Strong Showing At 2015 USA Diving National Preliminary Zone A Championships
Marlins Dive Team Places 3rd at Recent Preliminary Zone A Championship
The YMCA of Greenwich Marlins had a strong showing at the USA Diving National Preliminary Zone A Championship this past week. Overall, the team finished third out of 29 teams who competed in the meet.
Notably, Elizabeth Fitzpatrick, of Darien, qualified for the 1-meter semifinal of the USA Diving Nationals in the 16- to 18-year-old girls age group. She also qualified for the 3-meter dive, as well as both boards in the Women’s Senior Event at Nationals. Overall, Fitzpatrick placed fourth, finishing second in the 16- to 18-years-old girls 1-meter dive, second in Senior Women 1-meter dive, fourth in the 16- to 18-years-old Girls 3-meter dive and fifth in the Senior Women 3-meter dive.
Rye resident Carolina Sculti finished first on both the 1- and 3-meter dives in the 14- to 15-year-old girls age group. Competing in the Women’s Senior events as well, Sculti finished sixth on both boards, earning a spot to compete in the Senior Women’s events at Nationals. Sculti pre-qualified to compete in the 14- to 15-year-old Girls 1-meter, 3-meter and platform events at the Summer Nationals, as she is in the USA Diving’s Future Olympic Force. Overall, Sculti placed third.
Madelyn Seltzer, from Scarsdale, finished sixth and 10th on the 1- and 3-meter springboards in the girls 12- to 13-year-old age group, qualifying for the USA Diving Nationals. She was pre-qualified on the platform event, as she placed tops at the YMCA Nationals earlier this spring.
Saylor Kirsch, of Greenwich, finished 10th on platform in the 12- to 13-year-old girls age group, earning a spot to Nationals. She also finished 20th on 3-meter and 25th on 1-meter.
Devon Ott, of Rye, finished 12th on the 3-meter of 12- to 13-year-old girls age group, earning a spot to compete at Nationals. She also finished 14th on platform and 16th on 1-meter. Greenwich resident Casey Kirsch finished 18th on platform and 30th on 3-meter in the 12- to 13-year-old girls age group.
Another Greenwich resident, Regina Frias, finished 17th on platform, 18th on 3-meter and 21st on 1-meter, all in the 12- to 13-year-old girls age group. Frances Cohen, of New York City, finished 33rd on 3-meter in the 12- to 13-year-old girls age group, while Veronica Fyfe, from North New Jersey, finished 13th on 1-meter in the 11-years-old and under girls age group.
