2 Injured In Groton Crash That Closed I-95: State Police

Two people were injured, including a state trooper, in a four-car accident on I-95 Thursday afternoon.

GROTON, CT — Two people were injured in a four-car crash on I-95 in Groton on Thursday afternoon, according to state police.

A Toyota Camry was traveling on the right lane on I-95 North at 3:05 p.m. and approached a police cruiser, which was stopped with its lights activated. The Camry braked but struck the rear end of the cruiser.

The Camry then spun across the center and left lanes and made "minor contact" with a Toyota Highlander and a Kia Forte, according to state police.

A state trooper suffered a fractured left arm in the crash. The Camry's driver also suffered non-life-threatening injuries, including head pain and a laceration on his finger/arm. Both were transported to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London.

No other injuries were reported.

The accident remains under investigation.

The accident closed I-95 North between exits 85 and 86 on Thursday afternoon into the evening. During the closure, traffic was diverted off the highway onto Long Hill Road.
