Man Charged In Voyeurism Case, Groton Police Say (patch.com) — Groton residents are learning more about a voyeurism case after police charged a 68-year-old Buddington Road man with felony voyeurism with malice for allegedly hiding a GoPro camera under a guest’s bed. Investigators say the device contained images of the victim, including at least one nude photo, and the man has been released on bond pending a New London Superior Court appearance.
2. Groton man charged with accidentally shooting neighbor seeks diversionary program (theday.com) — A Groton resident charged in a 2025 accidental shooting at the Phoenix Park Apartments on Long Hill Road is asking a judge for a diversionary program that could erase his record. Prosecutors say a woman in the upstairs unit was seriously injured when a rifle discharged through the ceiling; the defendant remains free on bond and is due back in court June 3.
3. Eastern CT cities welcome windfall in new state aid money (theday.com) — Groton is set to receive $3.2 million in new state aid for town services and schools, a one-time boost that could ease next year’s property tax burden. Local leaders are debating how much of the town’s fund balance still needs to be used and whether the extra school funding should restore earlier cuts or truly expand education support.
4. Groton residents advocate for restoration of school funding (theday.com) — Groton residents and Fitch High School students are pressing the Representative Town Meeting to restore $800,000 cut from the proposed 2026-27 school budget, warning of impacts on tutors, social workers, and classroom support. The RTM will take more public comment May 13 and review the education budget May 19, ahead of a final town budget deadline of May 25.
5. Connecticut DOT delays I-95 Gold Star Bridge crossover until end of May (nbcconnecticut.com) — Drivers traveling between Groton and New London on I-95 will see lane reductions on the Gold Star Bridge continue until 2030, as part of a four-year, $900 million rehab project. A major traffic crossover, now set for May 30, aims to keep cars moving while crews replace massive sections of bridge deck and steel.
