Bear spotted in Noank area
Includes suggestions from Dept of Environmental Protection (D E E P)
To our Noank area neighbors... Thursday night - 7/5/2018
An adolescent-sized black or brown bear was seen by two people in their
yard, located at the West end of Main Street near the RR tracks, at 3:00
AM today. They reported this sighting to the D E E P and passed out a
flyer to their immediate neighbors and to our Noank Fire Dept.
The D E E P representative gave out the following guidelines for homeowners:
1) If you are feeding any birds, stop doing this immediately and secure the bird food indoors.
2) Secure any garbage containers in your garage or shed.
3) Do not feed the bears if you see any. Do not try to entice them into your yards.
4) If you see bears, frighten them by banging pots & pans, or if during the day, use an air horn.
5) If the bear stands up, it does not mean the bear is being aggressive.
6) Lastly....report any sightings on the D E E P Website.
Note - - the D E E P does NOT want to come out and shoot the animals if
it can be avoided. The idea is to reduce anything that will attract
them to this area.
Thank you, Ed Johnson
