Betsy Conway Appointed To Chelsea Groton Board of Trustees
General Counsel of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation Betsy Conway has been appointed to Chelsea Groton Bank's Board of Trustees.

GROTON, CT — Elizabeth “Betsy” Conway, General Counsel of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, was recently appointed to Chelsea Groton Bank’s Board of Trustees. Conway became a Corporator of the bank in 2011, according to a release.
“Betsy is thoughtful, insightful, and very skilled at analyzing intricate issues, and advising clients, colleagues, and decision-makers in complex matters,” President and CEO Michael Rauh said in a release. “Betsy also brings a great energy and passion to the work she does professionally and in the community. I look forward to working more closely with Betsy, and to the contributions she will undoubtedly make as a member of the Board.”
Conway began her career as an associate in a commercial litigation practice in Hartford. She joined Brown Jacobson, P.C. as an associate and then director, where her primary client was the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.

She became legal counsel of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, advising and representing the Tribal Nation in complex litigation. In 2011, she was named Associate General Counsel, and in 2016, was named General Counsel of the Tribal Nation.
In this role, Conway oversees the Office of Legal Counsel, which includes the direct supervision of attorneys and paralegals, development of the departmental annual budget and management of legal issues for the Tribal Nation. In addition, she has been an Adjunct Professor at the University of Connecticut School of Law since 2009.

Conway was instrumental in establishing the Indian Law Committee of the Connecticut Bar Association in 1998. She was elected the Committee’s first chair, and continues to serve as a member of the committee.
Conway also serves on the Board of Trustees at Norwich Free Academy. She previously served on the New London County Bar Association Board of Directors, and the boards of William W. Backus Hospital, Hartford Healthcare System, and Three Rivers Community College Foundation.
Conway earned a Bachelor of Arts from Georgetown University and a Juris Doctorate from University of Connecticut School of Law. She resides in Norwich.
