Bill Authorizing Navy To Build Attack Subs Does Not Include Funding For Production Boost
A bill was passed that authorizes the Navy to build attack submarines but does not include additional funding for the boost in production.

GROTON, CT - A spending bill was passed by the House on Thursday that authorized the Navy to build attack submarines, as reported by the New London Day. The bill however did not include additional funding for boosting sub production.
Under the bill, the Navy has been allowed to build up to 13 Virginia-class attack submarines, according to the New London Day. The money for the program included in the $788 billion spending package would cover the last two submarines in Block IV and materials needed to build future submarines. The number of submarines the Navy could buy in Block V however was not indicated by the bill, the New London Day reported. U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney, Democrat-2nd District was able to introduce an amendment that called for 13 submarines in Block V, however no corresponding boost in funding was included in the bill.
