GROTON CITY, CT—A boater saw what they believed was a body floating in the Thames River Saturday night and called police. Groton City Police Sgt. Steven Smith confirmed to Patch that police received a call at around 6:40 p.m. and that police recovered the body of a male in the river under the Gold Star Bridge.

Sunday police said the person is an Asian man between the ages of 30 and 40. Sgt. Patricia Lieteau confirmed that police have as of yet been unable to identify the man, who she sad had likely been in the water for an extended period of time adding it's not clear where the body may have drifted from, if anywhere.

Regional police departments were contacted to see if the man's description fits any missing persons cases without luck. Lieteau said the state medical examiner has the body and will perform an autopsy.
