Body Recovered After Car Plunges Into Water Off Groton Pier: Update

The incident occurred Friday afternoon. Breaking.

GROTON, CT — A body was recovered Friday afternoon from the waters off Groton, after a car with one person inside plunged off a pier on Thames Street, reports The Day.

The car plunged into the water off the Hel Cat Fishing Dock Pier at about 2 p.m., reports Fox61 News.

The pier is behind the Puffins Restaurant, and emergency personnel responded to the scene en masse Friday.

According to police, the car was found upside down in the water several yards off shore. A woman inside the submerged car was pronounced dead Friday at a local hospital, WTNH News 8 reports. No identification has been released as of yet.
