Please join the Noank Historical Society for “July 4, 1966, NOANK Under the Hill: Celebrating 50 Years of the Noank Historical Society”, presented by Stephen Jones, Saturday, June 18, 2016.
Potluck Supper begins at 6 pm followed by the Annual Meeting and Program at 7:30 pm at the The Latham/Chester Store, Main Street, Noank.
Stephen Jones will present an illustrated lecture about Noank in the July 4, 1966 era during which the Noank Historical Society was founded, and the special events and activities surrounding it. He is a long-time resident of Noank and has a wealth of knowledge about the area, its history, its colorful characters and celebrities. A Coast Guard veteran, Steve served as a lighthouse keeper and crew at a lifeboat station on Delaware Bay. After leaving the Coast Guard, he worked at the Mystic Marine Railway, in which his father had become a partner. He’s also a Professor of English and Coastal Maritime Studies at UConn’s Avery Point campus and the author of nine books, including Turpin, Drifting, Backwaters, Harbor of Refuge and Working Thin Waters.

Steve is President of Flat Hammock Press, an independent book publisher of nautical non-fiction and coastal culture. He’s been a lobster fisherman and is founding co-owner of the West Mystic Wooden Boat Company. We are happy to have him as our guest speaker at Noank Historical Society’s 50th anniversary meeting and celebration!
