Groton Public Library was originally planned to close on Sundays due to budget cuts.

GROTON, CT - A new citizens group in Mystic raised over $5,000 to help Groton Public Library open on Sunday, The Day reported.

This year’s budget cuts were expected to keep the library closed on Sundays during the school year, saving $17,800 in the process, according to The Day. It costs about $520 per Sunday to keep the library open.

The group, Power of Together Southeastern Connecticut 2, raised $5,800, The Day reported. It was combined with salary savings to make the $14,000 needed to keep the library open on Sundays.
