Police said the following in a statement: "The City of Groton Police Department stresses that incidences of this nature could have tragic outcomes given the similar nature of the seized replica firearms. Officers are not able to determine whether firearms of this nature are replicas or real at first sight. Officers have seconds to determine a threat and act appropriately... We would like to remind parents to please be aware of how juveniles playing with replica firearms can alarm the public and elicit a police response."
