City Police Budget Request Cut 7 Percent By Groton Town Council

Officials said two officer positions will not be able to be filled as a result.

GROTON, CT - The Groton Town Council recently voted to cut the budget request for the Groton City Police Department by 7 percent, the New London Day reported. Police officials said two officer positions will not be able to be filled as a result.

Town councilors voted to approve a budget of $2.24 million for city police during the meeting, according to the New London Day. That total is $174,000 less than the approximately $2.42 million the city had initially asked for. (To sign up for Groton breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

The city will delay filing two officer positions as a result of the decision, the New London Day reported. Councilors initially approved a larger cut of about 8 percent from the city’s budget request, but reconsidered.
