Connecticut State Latin Day Returns April 29th
Classical Association of Connecticut to Celebrate 35th Annual Latin Day.

Cheshire, CT – April 29, 2016 –Serit arbores quae saeclo prosint alteri (He who plants trees benefits the next generation) will be the theme at the 35th annual Connecticut State Latin Day (CSLD) to be held on May 1, 2015. Almost 2,000 Latin students from 50 Connecticut middle and high schools will journey to Holiday Hill in Cheshire to celebrate the language and culture of the Ancient Romans on this day.
The day’s agenda is filled with a variety of learning activities as well as academic competitions, which serve as the culminating activity for the year’s hard work. When busses arrive at 8:30 a.m., participants will be faced with a wide array of presentations to choose from, with topics such as Ancient Astronomy, Legal Latin and Life in the Roman Legion being offered throughout the day. Hands-on workshops available to students will include Toga Teddies, Roman Fresco Technique, and Mosaic-making. School teams will compete academically in Certamen (Latin Quiz Bowl) or on individual tests covering Latin grammar, Roman mythology, Ancient geography and even Ancient Greek.
Projects made throughout the school year by students in their respective schools will be on display for judging. For the first time in 2016, students can display, compete, and win prizes for short video projects with a Latin theme.

Students will compete in team and individual athletic contests with Roman themes, including discus throw, tug-of-war, bocce ball, and a decimated marathon. The day literally ends with a “Bang!” as students drive their homemade chariots in a race worthy of BenHur. There is something for everyone at CSLD.
