Fire At Groton Multi-Family Home Displaces At Least 8: Report

GROTON, CT — A three-alarm blaze at a multi-family home in Groton resulted in at least eight people being displaced, NBC CT reported. The Thursday evening fire at a multi-family home caused smoky conditions in the area.

Crews spent about three hours extinguishing the fire. Several area fire departments responded to the call.

Two residents were hospitalized due to smoke inhalation, according to NBC CT.

The Red Cross is assisting the displaced families.

A passerby broke down the building's door and, along with neighbors, rescued a woman from the fire, according to The New London Day.

The blaze extensively damaged the building at 273-279 Thames St., which has been deemed uninhabitable.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, though the initial report is that plumbing work was being done in the basement at the back of the building, according to The New London Day.
