Grasso Tech Students Shine at Choral Festival

On Saturday, October 18, eight students from Grasso Technical High School traveled to CCSU to participate in an Honor Choir.

On Saturday, October 18, eight students from Grasso Technical High School traveled to Central Connecticut State University to participate in the CT-ACDA Fall Conference High School Honor Choir. These students spent a rigorous day rehearsing under the direction of Mr. Russell Hammond, alongside 140 high school musicians selected from all over the state. In the afternoon they presented their work in a spectacular performance for parents, guests, and conference attendees. These Grasso Tech students participated in the honor choir: Patricia Destine (’16, Hairdressing, Barbering, and Cosmetology), Camila Duval (’16, Culinary Arts), Michael Hill (’17, Bio-environmental Technology), Cody Kliphon (’16, Information Systems Technology), James Miller (’18, Exploratory), Tim Pinckney (’16, Computer-aided Drafting and Design), Hannah Rhoades (’18, Exploratory), and Amanda Sawicki (’16, Culinary Arts).

This year, Grasso Tech will celebrate seven years of music in the school. In that time, the choir has grown to include nearly 90 singers, and the concert band boasts nearly 50 members. Their director, Ms. Melanie Wade, said this of the eight honor choir participants, “I am so proud of their accomplishments. They worked hard and represented the Grasso community well today. This is a great start to our school year.”
