Groton Board Of Education Considers New Transgender Issues Policy
The Groton Board of Education is considering a new policy that would address the needs of transgender and gender non-conforming youth.

GROTON, CT - The Groton Board of Education is considering a new policy that would address the needs of transgender and gender non-conforming youth, the New London Day reported. The proposal was brought before the board Monday evening.
The policy includes regulations over concerns such as names, pronouns, athletics, restroom and locker room accessibility and harassment, according to the New London Day. For instance, the proposal cites not addressing students by the names and pronouns correlating to their gender identity as a violation.
The proposal also says transgender students will be able to use restrooms that correspond with their gender identity and will not be forced to use a locker room conflicting with that identity, the New London Day reported. Board members decided to send the policy to a first reading at their Dec. 18 meeting.
