Groton Cinema 6 Expects Sellout For Harry Potter Midnight Premire

Long-Awaited Movie Opens July 15

The highly-anticipated cinematic finale of J.K. Rowling’s popular Harry Potter book series has, at last, arrived.

“Me and my friends and some coworkers are going to come dressed up,” said Anastasia Regem, while purchasing tickets at Groton Cinema 6 for her first Harry Potter midnight premier.

“Slytherin: that’s my house. I’m going to wear snake jewelry.”

Tickets for the film were not available until last Thursday after the cinema had unveiled a new ticketing system.

As of Wednesday, one third of the tickets for the midnight showing of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II had been purchased, with the expectation of a sold out show by the day’s end.

Groton Cinema 6 is no stranger to midnight fanfare. It fielded nearly 700 patrons when local businesses and a radio station set up booths and activities for the midnight premier of the Twilight series.

Activities surrounding the final installment of Potter, however, are more subdued—even banners advertising the film are a hard find.

“It’s kind of sad,” said Potter-devotee, Alexander Smith, on the end of the Potter series. “It’s a really good series. I think the hubbub [surrounding the film] is actually pretty good. It’s worth it—to give your child a memory on the big screen.”

Still, the fervor of anticipation remains.

“One of my friends read the whole series in, like, a week,” said Elijah Gonzales while in line for Transformers. “They were reading books all the time.”

“I guess it’s kind of a big deal,” said Rege. “Everyone’s saying it’s marking the end of their childhood. We were, like, nine when it started. I think I was in 5th grade when I read the first book and now it’s the last movie.”

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II is projected in 3-D. Potter fans are advised to come early to showings because of limited seating. (Groton’s only 3-D equipped theater seats 273.) 3-D glasses will be available through the theater for free (or for $3.00 purchase).
