Groton Man Arrested, Charged In Home Invasion: Report

Police said a Groton man has been arrested and charged in a Waterford home invasion in which he allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend.

WATERFORD, CT — Police said a Groton man has been arrested and charged in a Waterford home invasion in which he allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend, the New London Day reported. The incident occurred Friday at an unidentified Quaker Hill residence, according to police.

Police said George F. Bassett, 52, of Groton is charged with showing up at his ex-girlfriend's home and going on a rampage after accusing the victim of seeing other men, according to the new London Day. He then allegedly strangled and punched the woman multiple times.

The suspect also allegedly put holes in the wall of the home, knocked over vases and ripped a refrigerator door off its hinges, the New London Day reported. Waterford police said the victim's injuries lined up with her story and asked Groton City police to locate and arrest the suspect, which they did.
