Groton Man Killed In Motorcycle Crash; ID Released: Police
A 21-year-old man is dead after his motorcycle struck a parked car early Friday morning, police said.

GROTON, CT — A motorcyclist is dead after striking a parked car in Groton early Friday morning, according to Town of Groton police.
An officer on patrol spotted the scene of the accident in the area of 33 Fort Hill Road (Route 1) between Depot Road and South Road at 12:45 a.m.
The motorcycle was down on the road and its driver was located nearby with serious injuries. The driver was taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Elijah W. Hummel, 21, of Groton, was pronounced dead by medical personnel.
"Hummel’s family was notified of his death and we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family," police said in a statement.

An initial investigation found that Hummel was speeding in a 2024 Kawasaki ZX-400 westbound on Route 1, police said. He lost control of the motorcycle, went across the other lane, and struck an unoccupied Jeep Cherokee parked in front of Midway Pizza.
Emergency responders assisting police included the Poquonnock Bridge Fire Department, Groton Ambulance, and Lawrence & Memorial Paramedics.
The road was closed while the accident was under investigation but has since reopened.
