Groton Man Sentenced To Prison For Trafficking Cocaine
Court officials said a Groton man was sentenced to prison on charges of trafficking cocaine.

GROTON, CT - Court officials said a Groton man was sentenced to prison Friday on charges of trafficking cocaine. He has been sentenced to 12 months of imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release as a result of his charges.
According to court documents and statements made in court, Donald Hughes, 42, of Groton was provided cocaine by his supplier, Paul Mott of Groton, in the summer of 2016, according to a release. An investigation launched by the FBI Northern Connecticut Safe Streets Task Force, Norwich Police Department, Waterford Police Department and Groton Town Police revealed Mott regularly drove to his supplier in the Bronx, New York, to obtain the drug and provided it to Hughes and others for distribution.

Police said some of Mott’s narcotics trafficking activity occurred at his restaurant, Caribbean American Kitchen to Go, located on Truman Street in New London.
Hughes and Mott were both arrested on August 8, 2016, according to court officials. Police said Hughes possessed 319 grams of cocaine at the time of his arrest.

Hughes pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine on May 9, 2017. Court officials said three other individuals were charged and convicted as a result of the investigation.
