Groton Officials Implement Hiring Freeze
Groton officials have implemented a hiring freeze due to uncertainty about a reduction in state aid.

GROTON, CT - Groton officials have implemented a hiring freeze due to uncertainty about a reduction in state aid, the New London Day reported. The town is currently more than 50 days into the 2018 fiscal year without knowing how much money it will receive in state aid.
A resolution was passed August 8 that would freeze all vacant positions until they are reviewed, according to the New London Day. The Town Council must now approve all hirings. While the state has still not adopted a budget yet, the town’s adopted budget assumed a loss of $5 million in state funding, the New London Day reported. Should more be cut from Groton's aid, town officials said it could be hard to find savings the longer the fiscal year goes on.
