Groton Police Department to Change Look and Model of Cruisers

The department's fleet is expected to soon get a whole new look.

GROTON, CT – Police cars in Groton will be getting a whole new look, as the Department is investing in revamping the appearance of its vehicle fleet.

The department began attaining Ford Police Interceptors last year that will eventually replace the current aging Crown Victoria’s. The “Crown Vic” ceased production after the 2011 model year, according to a post on the department's Facebook page.

The Department will also begin to utilize the traditional “Black and White” color scheme, commonly recognized as police vehicles, this summer. Studies have shown that this color scheme is effective in immediately identifying a police car, as well as often giving the appearance of more cruisers on the road.

“Having patrol cars that are marked with traditional and recognizable colors allows the public to immediately identify them on the road and in the community," said Groton Chief of Police Louis Fusaro in the post. "Another added benefit is the reduced cost of the new ‘wrapped’ cars versus the more costly multi-color paint scheme."

The selection of the new design came after a careful analysis of several suggestions made by officers to the department Cruiser Committee. The new color scheme is expected to be phased in over the next several years as the older vehicles are replaced.
