Groton To Receive $15 million In Utilities Funding
District and state officials said Groton is set to receive $15 million In funding for Groton Utilities.

GROTON, CT - State Representative Joe de la Cruz (Groton, New London) and State Representative Christine Conley (Groton, Ledyard) announced this week that Groton is expected to receive $15 million in funding for Groton Utilities.
The State Bond Commission is expected to approve this funding during a meeting Friday at 10:30 a.m. The meeting will take place in Room 1E of the LOB, according to a release. (To sign up for Groton breaking news alerts and more, click here.)
The commission is set to approve $15 million to assist Groton Utilities with water treatment plant upgrades and regional interconnections/consolidations with five Southeastern CT Water Authority public water systems.

“This funding will be essential," de la Cruz said in a release, "in ensuring that Groton’s water supply facility is running at maximum efficiency."
Groton Utilities is a municipally owned and operated utility providing Electric and Water services to thousands of consumers in Southeastern Connecticut.

“This $15 million grant will be an enormous help to Groton’s public water system,” Conley said in a release. “The funding will be used to improve Groton Utilities’ effectiveness and productivity and I appreciate Governor Malloy's support.”
New London will also be receiving $10 million grant-in-aid to rehabilitate of Southbound Gold Star Bridge. The bridge is the longest in the state and consists of a southbound span built in 1973 and a northbound span built in the 1940's.
“Both New London and Groton residents travel across the Gold Star Bridge, so it’s vital that the bridge is maintained, safe, and well kept,” de la Cruz said in a release. “I am very appreciative of this funding as the rehabilitation of the southbound span of the bridge will make the ride smoother and safer for travelers of the 41st District.”
