Groton Residents Advised To Stay Safe, Warm During Extreme Cold

Residents are asked to refer anyone looking for a warming shelter to 2-1-1, Connecticut's free information and referral service​.

GROTON, CT - The Town of Groton's Office of Emergency Management said temperatures are forecast to average 15 to 20 degrees below normal through Friday. These conditions are also foretasted for Sunday through Tuesday.

Widespread subzero wind chill temperatures are forecast daily between midnight and noon, except Friday night, according to a release.

Due to these conditions, Connecticut's free information and referral service 2-1-1 is keeping track of open warming centers. If you know of anyone looking for a warming shelter, please refer them to 2-1-1.

Locally, elderly people are always welcome at the Senior Center when it is open. Likewise the Groton Public Library is an option during business hours.

Unless hit with a severe storm and/or a widespread power outage, the town is not currently planning to open an emergency shelter. Residents will be advised if the need arises.
