Lockdown Lifted At Groton Sub Base: UPDATE

Officials said the Naval Submarine Base in Groton was on lockdown following reports of a suspicious package.

GROTON, CT — The Naval Submarine Base in Groton was on lockdown Wednesday morning following reports of a suspicious package, according to media reports. Officials said the lockdown has been lifted.

The package was reported on the base around 9 a.m. near the former package store, according to NBC Connecticut. Officials said Naval Submarine Base New London was closed to everyone except essential personnel.

According to Fox 61, state, local and federal officials were notified. The Submarine Force Library and Museum adjacent to the base was also briefly closed to the public while the lockdown was in effect.

News 8 reports the package was ultimately deemed not a threat, and the incident remains under investigation.
