Groton Submarine Base Celebrates 100 Years of Service
The event featured a formal morning event and a looser celebration in the afternoon.

GROTON, CT- The Naval Submarine Base and the Naval Submarine School celebrated its 100th anniversary Tuesday, as reported by The Day.
The event was attended by navy officials and many others, which included a formal morning ceremony at the Historic Ship Nautilus, the world’s first nuclear-powered submarine, according to The Day. A less formal birthday bash was held later that afternoon at Washington Park.
The bash included an almost 500-pound cake in the shape of a submarine jettisoning out of the water, made by Cake by Fanck at Foxwoods Resort Casino, according to The Day. The celebration in all was meant to ring out the last 100 years, but also ring in 100 more.
