Groton Utilities Commissioner Resigns Over Kentucky Derby Trip Controversy

A Groton Utilities commissioner​ resigned has resigned in light of controversy surrounding a 2016 trip to the Kentucky Derby.

GROTON, CT - Groton Utilities Commissioner Edward DeMuzzio resigned Monday in light of controversy surrounding a 2016 trip to the Kentucky Derby, the New London Day reported. The city's Board of Ethics had recommended DeMuzzio either resign or be removed from his positions.

DeMuzzio resigned both from his Groton position and his role on the Bozrah Utilities Commission before the Groton City Council, according to the New London Day. He also said he would voluntarily contribute $7,500 to a charity of his choice. The aforementioned derby trip was hosted by the Connecticut Municipal Electric Energy Cooperative, the New London Day reported. It cost $342,330 for 44 participants.
