Groton Woman Fraudulently Purchased Vehicle Using Fake ID: State PD

A woman was charged with identity theft after using a fake ID to buy a vehicle, according to state police.

GROTON, CT — A Groton woman used a fake ID to buy a vehicle in 2023, according to state police.

Tracie Tarabek, 53, was charged with first-degree larceny of a motor vehicle, first-degree identity theft, and third-degree forgery.

Police received a report from an Ellington car dealership in September 2023 of a suspicious vehicle purchase. The dealership's finance manager and title clerk said they had sold a vehicle in June to a woman they now believed had used a fake license.

The deal was made using a loan from a national bank that the woman had failed to pay. A COLLECT search of the license found that the number was valid but the photo was different.

State police learned that there had been an arrest warrant in West Virginia for a woman using the same fraudulent ID to withdraw funds from a West Virginia resident.
