House Devastated In Groton Fire, As Crews Forced To Evacuate

The blaze was reported early Thursday and multiple fire departments responded.

GROTON, CT — Firefighters responded at about midnight Thursday to a first-alarm fire in Groton, according to The City of Groton Firefighters Union.

The blaze hit a home at 1341 North Road in Groton, according to a Town of Groton police statement. Firefighters and police arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames.

Officers and firefighters helped in evacuating a dog from the home.

The home's roof became compromised while firefighters battled the flames, forcing crews to leave the building. They returned later once the fire was knocked down to extinguish remaining hot spots, according to WFSB 3-TV.

No one was injured in the blaze, according to police. However, the home suffered significant structural and smoke damage. Fire officials deemed it uninhabitable, police said.

The fire was in the Poquonnock Bridge District and responding fire departments included Submarine Base, Center of Groton, Poquonnock Bridge, Old Mystic, and Mystic, along with Groton Ambulance and Groton Town Police Department.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
