The Lestertown Road Pump Station Project 2015
One of The Town of Groton's facility upgrades during a hot summer day July 30th, 2015
By - Andy Parrella
It’s been about 35 years since the Lestertown Road pump station has been upgraded and the needs of that section of town called for an upgrade. That’s what is happening according to Debbie Marshall-Baker, engineer for the Water Pollution Control facility in the Town of Groton.
“There will be a new natural cedar-stained fence for sound barrier reasons and because the former fence did not stand up to the gusty winds on that hill,” she said. Also, there were problems with the propane lines breaking with the settlement and that is the reason for the concrete slabs being poured. The fiberglass hut is not weather tight or insulated and therefore a new hut is needed. There is also a backup generator for power failures.

The town will be repaving the surrounding road area after the completion of the replacement hut and fences and it will blend beautifully with the surrounding buildings nearby according to Marshall-Baker. Neighboring Fairview Convalescent home is also undergoing a major building project with housing for independent living adjacent to their main facility.
Lombardi construction company is the subcontractor doing the work and they could be seen busily digging, removing old gravel and reconstruction concrete footing for the more secure new pumping station.

The project’s cost is approximately $58000.00 and the town is concentrating on that area as well as roofing replacements for Bridge Street and Tower Avenue facilities as well.
