Man Charged With Carrying Pipe Bombs In Groton: Police
A man has been charged after police found him in possession of pipe bombs, according to police.
GROTON, CT — A man has been charged after police found him in possession of pipe bombs, according to police. Benjamin D. Dahm, 32, was charged with two counts of carrying a dangerous weapon, first-degree breach of peace, two counts of illegal bomb manufacture, two counts of illegal possession of explosives, and first-degree reckless endangerment.
Groton Town Police responded to a medical call at about 5 p.m. Thursday in the area of 516 Gold Star Highway near Tollgate Road. While there, police identified suspicious items inside a backpack that belonged to Dahm, including what police believed to be metal pipe bombs, according to police.
Police took the package to a more secure location to avoid possible harm to the public. Gold Star Highway near Tollgate Road was secured to ensure public safety.

The State Police Bomb Squad responded to inspect the devices. It was determined that the devices actually were pipe bombs. The bomb squad disabled the devices, which are no longer a threat.
Police took Dahm into custody. He was held on $150,000 bond and is scheduled to be in court Friday.

Police said this is an isolated incident. There is no threat to public safety. No injuries were reported.
