Convicted Felon Had Gun, Drugs In Groton: Police

A man is facing charges after police say they found him with an unregistered handgun and drugs packaged for sale.

GROTON, CT — A man is facing drug and gun charges in Groton, according to police.

Groton City police arrested Eric Smith-Walker, 44, of New London, following a motor vehicle stop Tuesday at 7:46 p.m.

Officers learned during the stop that Smith-Walker had an active arrest warrant from the New London Police Department.

Smith-Walker was taken into custody on the active warrant. Police conducted a search during the arrest. Officers discovered a quantity of crack cocaine, which was packaged for sale, as well as contraband.

Smith-Walker was also found to have an unregistered gun, police said.

He was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon, illegal possession of weapon in a motor vehicle, possession with intent to sell narcotics, possession of a controlled substance, and motor vehicle charges.

Smith-Walker was held on a $150,000 cash/surety bond. He was scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
