Man Had 243 Grams Of Crack Cocaine Near School: Groton Police

A man is facing charges that he ran a drug operation near a Groton school, police said.

GROTON, CT — City of Groton Police found more than 243 grams of crack cocaine in a bust near Thames River Magnet School on Monday, according to a police statement.

Police found the drugs at a Brandegee Avenue home within 1,500 feet of the school.

Officers also found $12,642, along with multiple cell phones and equipment used to prepare drugs to be sold, according to police.

The school was notified of the investigation but was not affected by it.

Andre Gilbert, 53, who is currently on probation, was charged with possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics within 1,500 feet of a school, possession of 1/2 an ounce of crack cocaine with intent to sell, and operating a drug factory.

He was released after posting $125,000 cash/surety bond.
