GROTON, CT — A man is accused of threatening a person with a knife at a Groton hotel Sunday, according to Town of Groton police. The victim was a parent with a youth marching band staying at the hotel for a competition.

Police received a call at 7:14 a.m. from a man reporting that hotel staff had refused to allow him into a room and that he wanted police to respond.

Then hotel patrons called 911 reporting the previous caller, later identified as Jonathan Jean-Pierre, 30, of Rosedale, New York, stating that he was displaying a knife and making threats to "kill everyone," police said.

Officers found Jean-Pierre in front of the hotel with a knife in his hand. Police made multiple commands for him to drop the knife, but he refused. An officer then used a taser, striking Jean-Pierre and "immediately incapacitating him," according to police.

Police then removed a folding multi-tool/knife from him and took him into custody. Jean-Pierre was evaluated by ambulance personnel and found to have no injuries.

Witnesses told police that Jean-Pierre became angry about not being able to access a room that hotel staff hadn't yet prepared for occupancy.

He began yelling profanities at hotel staff nearby to where members of a youth marching band were eating breakfast. The marching band consisted of members ages 13 to 21 who were in the area for a competition.

One of the parents with the marching band approached Jean-Pierre and asked him to quiet down as there were so many children around. Jean-Pierre pulled out a knife and held it to the victim's throat, saying he intended to murder the victim, his wife, and his children, who were all present at the time, according to police.

Hotel staff intervened and got Jean-Pierre outside, where he continued to display the knife and yell disturbing comments until police arrived.

No one was injured in the incident.

Jean-Pierre was charged with violation of conditions of release, carrying a dangerous weapon, first-degree reckless endangerment, two counts of risk of injury to a minor, three counts of second-degree threatening, and three counts of second-degree breach of peace.

He was held on $275,000 bond and scheduled for arraignment at New London Superior Court on Monday.
