Man Rescued From Mystic River In Groton: Police
A man allegedly broke a window at a home then fled and entered the Mystic River. Police and firefighters rescued the man from the water.
GROTON, CT — Town of Groton police and Old Mystic firefighters rescued a man from the Mystic River on Thursday afternoon. Groton Emergency Dispatch received a 911 call at 4:14 p.m. reporting a man with a dog who had allegedly broken a window at a home in the Mystic section of town and fled on foot.
While police were en route, the caller said the man had entered the Mystic River and begun swimming across to the Stonington side of Mystic.
When officers arrived, they found the man attempting to cross the river and the dog running free on River Road. The man was struggling to swim amid the cold water and strong current.

Additional first responders responded including Connecticut State Police from Troop E, Stonington Police, Mystic River Ambulance, and L&M Paramedics.
Firefighters used an inflatable rescue boat and entered the water to attempt to rescue the man. Firefighters and police on the boat located the man in the water and brought him to shore.

They then transported him to L & M Hospital for further evaluation.
No injuries were reported.
The dog was captured safely, is in good health, and is being held at the Groton Police Animal Control Facility.
Groton police are also investigating an evading motor vehicle accident that occurred Thursday involving a gray passenger vehicle. Police said the accident is associated with the man rescued from the river.
