Man Strikes School Bus, Leads Police On Chase Through Groton: PD

New London police said a man was arrested after hitting multiple vehicles, including a school bus, and leading police on a multi-town chase.

NEW LONDON, CT - New London police said a man was arrested Wednesday after hitting multiple vehicles without stopping, including an occupied school bus. He then led officers on a chase through multiple towns, police said.

Police said they received multiple reports of a person hitting several vehicles in the area of Connecticut College, including a school bus. The suspect was also reported to have struck vehicles in Waterford, according to police.

Police said officers began to pursue the driver, 60-year old Rubin Ramos of Taftville, who refused to stop and led them through both Groton and Ledyard.

Police said Ramos was eventually caught and subsequently arrested on a number of charges, including reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, driving under the influence, engaging officers in pursuit and evading responsibility among other charges.

The suspect was also charged with operating an unregistered motor vehicle and failure to carry insurance.

Police said Ramos is currently on parole, and was transferred to the custody of the CT Department of Corrections after being processed by New London police.
