More than 250 Groton Residents Petition Closure of Road

After a man was killed at an intersection in 2011, the city has looked into closing the street.

GROTON, CT – A petition has been sent around opposing the closure of Vergennes Court, garnering more than 250 signatures, The Day reported.

The road is a small street that intersects with Fort Hill Road and leads to the Fort HIll neighborhood, according to The Day. A design and estimate for the road’s closure had already been approved in the 2005 fiscal year.

Reasoning for the possible closure traces back to an incident in 2011, where a man walking in the nearby intersection was killed, according to The Day. Neighbors have said the street is not to blame, and think the closure will only cut off a needed access point to Fort Hill.
